W.P. Groeneveldt

Willem Pieter Groeneveldt (1841-1915) worked as a Chinese interpreter from 1861 to 1874 in Amoy, Canton, Peking and Sumatra. In 1875 he became the curator of the archaeological collection of the Batavian Society, and held various roles in the colonial administration. He also became secretary, from 1877, and president, from 1889, of the Batavian Society.
