Colin MacKenzie (1754-1821) joined the British East India Company at the age of 28. Between 1800 and 1810 he led the Mysore survey, which included a team of draughtsmen who collected material on the natural history, geography, architecture, history, customs and folklore of the region. He spent two years in Java during the British occupation of the island. During that period he helped Raffles to collect material, including drawings of the architectural and sculptural remains of Java’s past. Read more.
